PDF Starter

PDF files are perfect for presentations. But trying to start them directly from a CD/DVD or USB stick can be a challenge. Because you can not be sure, if an which PDF viewer is installed on the current PC. There are several viewer in different versions available, with different abilities. It is the most safe way to offer your PDF with a preinstalled PDF viewer directly from the data carrier:

1. Adobe Reader the original – for this task not quite appropriate (to big, to slow)
2. Foxit-Reader very slim, but writes into the registry
3. PDF-XChange-Viewer The favorite solution

The most reasonable advantage of the PDF format: Total layout control with maximum protection of the content against abuse. But starting a probably unknown application and the reason why, should be announced to the user. PDF starter handles this at a single blow:

• It informs the user very fast (because it is small) with individually built HTML text about things going to happen – relevant if a huge document shall open that may take a while on slow disc drives
• It opens the selected PDF viewer and optionally configures the system
• It offers to the user the ability to stop the operation
• It closes after successful start of the target application
• Within the HTML window you may offer cross links, file links and special options, i.e. for additional informations or installation of additional programs, a.s.o. .
• It starts any application that does not need to be installed or requires write access to the start media

The package contains a runing demo project incl. PDFX-Change Viewer. Adopting it to you personal needs requires no exceptional skills. A detailed guide is enclosed, simply start «pdfstarter.exe» and press «Start», after unpacking the zip-file into a folder you like. NO INSTALLATION required.
